After much anticipation, the Hunger Games DVD is being released on August 18th! The best-selling book has recently become an equally popular movie that premiered last March.

In order to really appreciate the movie, it’s wise to read the books first. If you don’t, it’s possible you could get extremely confused, so watch it with someone who did read the series. This next part is for the die hard fans who can’t wait to buy the DVD. After a bit of research, I’ve found the top three places to purchase the movie. The first store is Fye which is selling the Hunger Games for $16.00, along with a poster from the movie. The second store is, of course, Walmart. The DVD is $22.00 if you order online and comes with 30 minutes of exclusive content and a Mockingjay pendant. In my personal opinion, the best deal is at Target. For $20.00, you receive a three disc limited edition DVD, with 45 minutes of exclusive bonus features that’s only available online! With only a couple days left, make sure to pre-order the Hunger Games movie now, before it’s sold out. And, may the odds be ever in your favor!

The book, which was written by Suzanne Collins, is about a post-apocalyptic world  in which the country of Panem has become the ruling nation in North America. At the center of this country is the Capitol, which oversees all of the twelve districts. Each district has a certain industry in which they make goods for the Capitol. For example, District One specializes in luxury items and District Two in masonry.

Before the Capitol created the Hunger Games, there were thirteen districts in Panem. Then, during a period known as the Dark Days, the districts rebelled against the Capitol and its harsh rules. In the end, the rebels lost and District Thirteen was obliterated. To remind the people of the districts that the Capitol had power over them, the Hunger Games was created. It required one boy and one girl, between the ages of twelve and eighteen, from each district to fight to the death in an arena. The last person alive would win.

Fast forward 74 years, and there, we meet Katniss Everdeen, the strong-willed main character from District Twelve. Residing in a small home on the outskirts of the district, Katniss has to take care of both her little sister, Prim, and her mom. Since there’s never enough food, Katniss takes it upon herself to hunt illegally in the woods with her best friend Gale. Trading the caught game, in a black market named the Hob, Katniss is able to keep her family alive. Then, on the day of the reaping for the Hunger Games, Prim’s name is drawn as the female tribute. But, she is quickly replaced by Katniss who volunteers in order to save her sister’s life. If Katniss ever wants to see her family, or District 12 again, she’s going to have to survive the Hunger Games.
